Call for Proposals
The BioCAT undulator beamline is fully operational and we are soliciting
scientific proposals for beam time starting Quarter 1, 2002. We would
like to particularly encourage proposals in the area of biological
small-angle scattering and XAFS, but we welcome any worthwhile project
that could be supported by our facility. (Macromolecular
crystallography is not supported.) The deadline for proposals is
October 15th. (Instructions)
Please feel free to contact any of our staff
to discuss your project prior to submission.
We encourage everyone to attend the BioCAT Workshop on Tuesday, Oct. 9th
from 6 PM to 9 PM during the APS User's Meeting at the APS. We will
present talks by BioCAT staff and users demonstrating new capabilities,
particularly in the area of high resolution X-ray spectroscopy,
small-angle scattering and XAFS. The meeting will conclude with a
discussion of future directions of the facility, where users will get a
chance to request additional requirements necessary to do their science.
Refreshments will be provided. The details of the program will be
posted on the BioCAT web page closer to the date.
BioCAT has a new Director!
Grant Bunker has stepped down as of June 1, 2001 from the Director's
position to concentrate on the data analysis and XAFS instrumentation
core projects. Tom Irving, formerly Deputy Director, has stepped into
the Director's job. Many thanks to Grant for all his hard work over
many years to make the BioCAT project happen. Tom is excited by the
challenges and opportunities that lie ahead to continue developing
BioCAT into an outstanding user facility.
